کتاب Blindness اثر Jose Saramago نشر ماتBlindness by José Saramago is a powerful dystopian novel that explores what happens when an unexplained epidemic of “white blindness” suddenly spreads through an unnamed city.
As more people lose their sight, the government places the infected in quarantine, where fear, hunger, violence, and the collapse of social order quickly take over. Stripped of the rules and comforts of civilization, the characters are forced to confront the darkest and most compassionate aspects of human nature.
Amid the chaos, the doctor’s wife mysteriously remains the only person who can still see. Keeping her ability a secret, she becomes the guide and protector of a small group of survivors as they struggle to survive in a world that has descended into moral and physical darkness.
Rather than focusing on the cause of the epidemic, the novel examines how people behave when laws, institutions, and social norms disappear. It raises profound questions about humanity, ethics, responsibility, and the meaning of true vision.
